Independent magazines, city guides and lifestyle publications

Not every media project is a newsroom. A large share of the publications we build are run by one person: a journalist who left a title, a specialist writing for an audience nobody else serves, a photographer who became an editor. The requirements are different from a news site, and most website builders get them wrong.

A guide is consulted, not read once. A reverse-chronological feed suits daily news. It is the wrong shape for a city guide, a restaurant review archive or a travel publication, where the reader arrives wanting one specific category. That calls for a real editorial taxonomy — browsable worlds and tag pages that each act as an entry point, so an article on a rooftop bar is found under bars, under the city and under summer at once. Every one of those pages then earns search traffic in its own right.

The archive is the asset. A publication with a few hundred articles and its own photography has years of work invested in it. Moving it needs a migration that keeps the URLs, the images and the rankings — not a relaunch dressed up as a redesign.

Monetisation has to be legible. Independent publishers rarely fail for lack of an audience; they fail because nothing on the site tells a brand how to buy. So we build the media kit as a page: the formats offered, the price ranges, what is included, and the editorial rules that make the inventory credible. Sponsored features, listing placements inside curated guides, newsletter spotlights — stated openly, with a rate card.

And the audience must be yours. A newsletter on your own domain and your own list is the one asset no platform can take back. Memberships and paid subscriptions are built in when you want them.
